How To Stop Your Dogs Excessive Barking

Filed under: Home, House Pets - worldall @ 9:53 pm

Barking is the dog’s instinctive means of giving a warning and it would be against your interest to discourage it. However, once you have been alerted, your dog should realize that his job is done. So select a word of praise, such as “Good Dog” or “Okay”, or command such as “quiet”, and give your dog a pat to indicate that he must now be still.

Hysterical barking such as during a thunderstorm, can be treated by reassurance, companionship, distraction, or if all else fails by tranquilizers from your veterinarian. Barking at a strange object can be quickly stopped by showing him that there is nothing to fear.

Seeds 200 Years Old Breathe Again

Filed under: Home, Gardening - worldall @ 9:44 pm

Seeds which have been stored away since the time of George III have been persuaded into new life.

Scientists from the Millennium Seed Bank, operated by the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, have induced seeds from three species to germinate.

They had been brought to Britain from South Africa by a Dutch merchant in 1803, and were found in a notebook stored in the National Archives.

Given this history, the team said it was surprised by their success.

Sweeten your week with our series of dark chocolate recipes

Filed under: Home, Cooking - worldall @ 9:39 pm

Americans are giving in to the dark side — of chocolate, that is. No longer satisfied with standard semisweet chocolate or (gasp!) milquetoast milk chocolate, we’re buying ever darker chocolate.

One indication of the trend is that chocolate makers are prominently displaying cacao percentages on their packages, cacao being the basic ingredient in chocolate.

Help! My Old House Needs Updating

Filed under: Home, Home Improvement - worldall @ 11:53 pm

There are many styles of older homes. All unique in their own special way, all attributed to architectural designs of the past. Should we always strip away older homes uniqueness? Design elements that once made the home not only an attractive place to live, but a home that was well sought after by the general home owner? Taking into account "what goes around comes around". Would it be perhaps wiser to try and integrate the old with the new?

New Vegetarian Cookbook Challenges Old Myth

Filed under: Home, Cooking - worldall @ 11:30 pm

KAHULUI, Hawaii - July 19 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — A newly released vegetarian cookbook is challenging the old myth that vegetarian food is not as tasty or filling as dishes prepared with meat or animal products. "The Maui Vegetarian - Cooking with Aloha," by Brian Igarta, is breaking new ground by proving that vegetarian dishes are exciting and flavorful enough to stimulate the taste buds of even the most staunch meat-eater. The self-published book is breaking new ground in other ways also: the demand for the book is so high that it will not stay on the shelves of the bookstores that carry it.

What is pet?

Filed under: Home, House Pets - worldall @ 6:11 pm

A pet is an animal kept for companionship and enjoyment, as opposed to livestock, laboratory animals, working animals or sport animals, etc who are kept for economic reasons or to perform specific jobs. The most popular pets are noted for their loyal or playful characteristics, for their attractive appearance, for their song. Pets generally seem to provide their owners with non-trivial health benefits; keeping pets has been shown to help remove stress. [citation needed] There is now a medically approved class of ‘therapy animals’, mostly dogs, who are brought to visit confined humans (some illnesses, age related disabilities, etc). Walking a dog can also provide its owner (as well as the dog) with exercise, fresh air, and social interaction.
